Sponsor | tomkeenan | Apr 15, 2006 2:28pm | I'm looking for some suggestions of books on Green Building. I am planning on building a home in about 2-3 years. I am looking for books which could give me ideas about planning an attractive, functional, green house.
Thus far I have two Daniel Chiras books The Natural House and The Solar House |

Brown and Mark DeKay. It follows a "rules-of-thumb" approach to calculating a building's requirements and to choosing between ecological alternatives for reaching the environmental goals. |

Ecohouse 2, A Design Guide by Sue Roaf, has a lot of information and examples.
Sod It! edited by Peter Carpenter, is about an actual earth sheltered house in Wales.
The Green Building Bible, edited by Keith Hall, 'All you need to know about ecobuilding' is more like a collection of articles, but very informative.
The last two are written predominantly from a British perspective, but have a lot of general information too.
For inspiration, have a look at Shelter and Home Work covering traditional and modern hand built 'shelters' respectively. |

| cornellbox | Apr 13, 2007 10:30am | I posted a review of Peter Buchanan's "Ten Shades of Green" at GreenOptions earlier this week. It's more focused on commercial building, though there are four houses included at the end.
I hope to be doing more reviews of books in the future, and I'm going to look for a couple that have been suggested here. (I've had Sun, Wind & Light on my recommended books list for a while, but my local library doesn't have a copy, and I haven't gone out and gotten a copy of my own, yet.) |
